Casual Animal Attendant Job Description & Criteria

Job Description/Duties

Our Animal Attendants look after dogs and cats in our care and must have a genuine love of animals.

Duties include cleaning of dog kennels, cat suites, play yards and keeping common areas of the property clean and tidy. Feeding, exercising, giving medication and hydrobathing dogs.

Animal Attendants are required to monitor, report and record pet's health and well being on a daily basis.

Animal Attendants may be asked to assist the Duty Manager (reception) with such duties as check-ins and check-outs, serve customers, answer telephones, take bookings, use a computer, transport pets to and from client's homes or take pets to Vets.

Animal Attendants may be required to relieve the Duty Manager (once competent).

All employees are responsible for the professional, sympathetic and ethical care of pets.

All employees are engaged on a casual basis, engaged by the hour under the Miscellaneous Award.

All employees commence employment as Level 1 “Assistant Animal Attendant”. We have in-house training and all new employees will be supervised either individually or as part of a team and will report directly to an Advanced level employee. Progression to Level 2 requires that the employee can satisfactorily perform duties assigned at this level unassisted.

The Criteria for employment, ideally, candidates must…..

•  Be physically fit, strong, confident with animals and able to handle and control dogs and cats.

•  Be able to perform physical work and not be worried about getting their hands dirty.

•  Be willing to work, be on time, reliable, able to take direction and have a desire to learn.

•  Have basic computer knowledge and excellent communication skills.

•  Have a current drivers licence and own transport (no public transport available).

•  Be able to work individually, unsupervised (when competent) and work as a team member.

•  Understand and accept that this is a seven day per week industry. We have the exact same routine and are fully staffed 365 days a year. Which means employees will be expected and be available to work on weekends, school holidays, public holidays including Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Easter which is our most busiest time of the year.

•  Be available to work during our hours of operation which are 7am to 5pm. Employees may be required to start before 7am or finish after 5pm.

Experience is an advantage, but not a necessity, however, a genuine love of animals is essential.
